War of the Worlds (2005) & Casablanca (1942)

War of the Worlds (2005)

I recently went to see War of the Worlds, starring Tom Cruise. I know that the critics have been giving it mixed reviews, mostly because they can't help themselves from comparing it to the original. I never saw the original in its entirity, just a few clips here and there, so I had a fresh view of the movie.

Overall, great story, and fantastic special effects. Tom Cruise has been pissing me off, so the thought that he was going to get killed by aliens gave me hope for some redeeming aspects of the film. I'll let you watch to have the same hope. As we find more and more... it is difficult to remake classic movies. Those who make these attempts generally don't do so well, not to say that making $100 Million is doing that bad either.

War of the Worlds delievers a great story with well done special effects.

This movie gets 8 out of 10 points, and should definately be seen in a large format theater.

Casablanca (1942)

I just rented this classic film starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman set in Morocco. I would easily put this in the best films of all time category. Here you have love, intregue, mystery and action all in one flick. A great supporting cast including the likes of Peter Lorre and Claude Rains round out this fine group of actors.

This movie will draw you in from the begining into the lives of a few people that aren't worth a hill of beans. At the end of the movie, you'll see that there is more to these complex characters, and they give you something to feel good about... even if there is a "love triangle".

Casablanca is timeless and worth a rental anytime.
This movie gets 10 out of 10 points.

Setting it up

I watch TV and Movies, just like many people. So when I'm not busy trying to come up with something for my main blog, I may post my thoughts about a movie or TV show.

Enjoy! :)
